History Bible 11 | SAUL and DAVID – The united kingdom

A series of features that aims to demonstrate the reliability of the Bible’s references, for the sake of which Biblical Archaeology was created.

The prophet Samuel spoke very harshly to the elders of the Jewish amphictyony of the 12 tribes against the institution of the kingdom, which he told them would lead to socio-economic change that would have tragic results.  The subversive text for an era of global darkness (c. 1,020 BC) is the following: “ … He … who will reign over you; he will take your sons and appoint them for himself, for his chariots and for his horsemen and to run before his chariots. And he will appoint for himself … to till his ground and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war … And your daughters he will take to be perfumers and cooks and bakers; and 11 your fields and your vineyards and your olive groves, the best of them he will take and give to his servants. And he will take a tenth of your seed and of your vineyards and give to his eunuchs and his servants. 16 And he will take your menservants and your maidservants and your best young men and your donkeys and put them to his work.” To conclude with a thunderbolt: “He will decimate your flocks; and you will be his servants.” (1 SA., 8:10-17)
